Wow the first trimester flies by don’t they!?! Not only are you trying to adjust to all the hormone changes and early pregnancy symptoms but also trying to keep the biggest secret ever!

Week – we found out we were pregnant in February when we were in week 6 and had to keep it quiet for a further 6 weeks. The longest 6 weeks ever! Our scan was booked for mid April which just felt like forever away.

Babies growth – by week 12 our baby was the size of a plum and weighed approx 0.49 ounces. Their organs have formed and gender is already decided.

Weight changes – I started to keep a log of my weeks in my Slimming World book so I could track. Still trying to stick to Slimming World where I could, by the time we attended our 12 week scan I had gained 5lbs but was still 3.5lbs below my Slimming World start weigh.

Symptoms – Looking back on it, I may have had a few warning signs before taking my pregnancy test. A couple of weeks before taking the test I had a bad weigh in at Slimming World, I came home and cried, and cried and cried. My husband thought someone had died.

It was a complete and utter over reaction when I look back on it but it felt like the end of the world on that night. I’m blaming it on raging hormones I didn’t even know I had.

I didn’t want much to eat in the following few weeks, except for Marks & Spencer creamy mash potato, boy did I want that! Oh and toast, a lot of toast!

My only other symptom was tiredness, such extreme tiredness that sometimes I didn’t even eat any dinner. Not just because I wasn’t overly hungry, because I couldn’t find the energy to lift my fork to my mouth.

The odd thing about the first trimester symptoms is that as quickly as they came, they went. By week 13 my energy had returned, my bed time went almost back to normal and I started eating actual meals again. It’s amazing what your body can adapt to in such a small amount of time.

Keeping the secret – Boy that was hard, my work trousers were becoming uncomfortable and I was sure people were noticing my strange eating habits, lack of energy and constant shuffling in my seat to get comfy. I also cancelled so plans with friends due to tiredness I was certain someone would catch on.

The scan – We attended our first scan and got see our tiny little baby for the first time. As first time parents it was over whelming, that little human is in my tummy, kicking its legs and waving its arms around.

We could finally share our news with the world!
