Pregnancy Update // 20 weeks

June 21, 2016

Wow it’s going so fast, I can’t believe we are half way through this pregnancy already. I’m actually 22+5 as I write this but I wanted to give you a 20 week update of where I was 2 weeks ago as it’s a nice round half way point.

Week – I am 20 weeks pregnant and the weeks are simply flying by. I can still remember only just finding it out and thinking our 20 week scan was going to be so far away.

Babies growth – at 20 weeks baby is the size of a small banana and weighs approx 10.5 ounces. Baby is now covered in white hairs to protect them whilst in the amniotic fluid.

Weight changes – I have now gained a total of 11lbs since I found out I was pregnant, 6 pounds since my 12 week scan. Whilst I am trying to follow my Slimming World plan as much as possible and am doing fairly well at this with my meals, my snacks have not been to plan.

Symptoms – I have had incredible back pain, mostly caused by my pre-diagnosed sciatica for which my midwife has referred me to a physio – can’t wait to see if that helps. My back hurts constantly, from the moment I wake up to going back to sleep again.

My only other symptom has been slightly swollen feet when the days have been warmer, not enough to hurt me or be uncomfortable but my shoes do leave marks in my feet when I take them off. I will have to keep an eye on that…

20 week scan – we had our scan on the 2nd June, and I was nervous, I just wanted to know that everything was OK.

Baby was all curled up, right down in my pelvis when we started the scan. It took 45 minutes for them to get all the measurements they needed but they were able to confirm that everything was just perfect!.

The sonographer confirmed that I have an anterior placenta that means it is sitting right across the front of my tummy. We could see baby kicking away but I couldn’t feel it and she confirmed this was normal – but she said it wouldn’t take long…

Finally they were able to get all they needed, after a lot of poking and prodding (my tummy was so sore the next day) and we were able to find out that we were having a little girl. Everyone thought it was going to be a boy, even Kevin and he was so shocked when they said it was a girl. It took a couple of hours for him to adjust but he soon got excited.
