Our Nursery Routine, Mornings & Evenings

August 3, 2017

We’ve been adjusting to our new life as working parents for two weeks now and it’s meant we’ve had to change our routine quite a bit. I’ve been messaged a few times by other mums who are worried about how this change will affect them or how much of a shock to the system it really is.

So, I thought I would give you a quick rundown of our new morning and evening routine:

6am – I’m up and in the shower. Makeup and hair done but then I put my PJs back on in case Amelia makes a mess of my work clothes.

7am – Wake Amelia up with a morning bottle and some cuddles.

7.15am – Start to get Amelia ready, change her nappy, and wash her face and hair. Apply coconut oil to her face and hair and comb hair to make the curls all tidy. Choose her outfit for nursery and get her dressed.

7.30am – Either put Amelia back in her cot with a few stuffed toys or take her downstairs to play in her play pen whilst I get dressed.

7.40am – Double check we have everything packed (I do this the night before and just add last minute things like lunch from the fridge). Chase Amelia around the living room to put her shoes on.

7.55am – Pack everyone and everything in the car to drive to nursery. Yes I drive and it’s a 3 min walk but my husband drops me at the station afterwards.

8am – Drop Amelia at nursery, quick run through with the staff about how she’s been the night before, sign her in and have goodbye kisses and cuddles.

8.10am – To the station for work!

GO TO WORK

5.30pm – My husband picks Amelia up from nursery on his way home from work and they play together at home.

6pm – I get home, and we all crack on with dinner. Amelia is really enjoying her food again now and isn’t interested in pouches anymore. She wants to eat proper food, so we make her a small side portion of what we’re having and she eats with us at the table.

7.30pm – Bath time and to bed.

Once Amelia is in bed I make dinner and prepare for the next day by making sure her nursery bag is already packed.

I make our lunches for the next day and try to do as many house hold jobs as possible whilst still trying to spend some quality time with Kev.

It’s actually been a lot easier to adjust to this new routine than I expected. Amelia used to sleep until around 8am so I am waking her earlier but she doesn’t seem to mind.

I still wake her around 9.30-10pm for a nappy change and some milk, she doesn’t normally eat milk and her food at tea time so I save it for later in the evening. Sometimes I’m not sure she really needs it but I wouldn’t feel right going to bed without offering her any milk to help her get through the night.

When I was thinking about how our routine would change I was feeling quite stressed about how I make sure everything was ready for the next day and making sure her nursery bag was packed but it’s actually been easier than I thought.

I’m going to do a post in the next few days about what we pack in her nursery bag for those who have asked. If there is anything else you would like to see on the blog, please leave a comment below or message me on Instagram.
