Amelia’s First Easter Egg Hunt

April 1, 2018

Happy Easter everyone, you might be wondering why I’m breaking my blog routine to share a post on Sunday and to be honest it’s just because I want share our first ever Easter egg hunt experience with you. It’s the first time I’ve been to anything like this as Amelia was so tiny last year it would have been pointless.

It was my friend Hannah’s suggestion as it’s been months since we’ve been able to get the girls together to have a play and I miss seeing her like we used to on mat leave. Now, I don’t know how Easter egg hunts are meant to go, and granted we have had a lot of rain lately but good god! I have never in my adult life seen so much mud (and no I’ve never been to a festival).

Amelia’s friend Zeffie handled the mud better than she did, the first sign of the stuff and she refused to walk any further. I couldn’t even convince her it was fun to run in mud because you could barely lift your feet out of the stuff to take a step. In Amelia’s defence, there were parts of the trail she physically wouldn’t haven’t been able to walk because it was so slippery.

So, the trail took twice as long as it should have due to the terrible conditions and I had to carry my 17 months old and her muddy wellies all the way round because she would only be put down long enough to look at a wooden bunny display or collect a sticker and then she wanted carrying again.

I’ll tell you, I’ve never been so glad to see the end of a woodland walk; we were greeted at the end with a small petting zoo with some chicks, rabbits, guinea pigs, lambs, goats and a pig. The girls were so excited by the animals that it almost made up for the awful slog in the mud.

Amelia actually stroked one of the bunnies too which is a first as the last time we went to the farm she was scared of all the animals but she stoked a rabbit, poked the guinea pig and had a weird encounter with a lamb that got too close to her and practically kissed her on her nose. She didn’t like that one little bit so it was time to move from the petting zoo.

Our little Easter event also included a roast dinner for parents and we chose not to pay for dinner for the girls because they probably wouldn’t eat it which is exactly what happened although they didn’t really eat anything and just threw it all on the floor.

I don’t know how Easter egg hunts normally go but I’m pretty sure it’s not meant to be like this, thank god I was there with Hannah and we could laugh about the whole thing otherwise I think I would have cried by the end.

Needless to say, by the time we got back to the car we were caked in drying mud, the girls were crying from tiredness and we were both eggshuasted – see what I did there!

Whilst the trip might not have gone quite how we planned it was so lovely to meet up again after such a long time and see the girls together again. It’s so hard when you can’t find time to get together but we’ve promised to do more at weekends so the girls can spend more time playing together and less time looking at each other sideways trying to suss each other out.

Rachel xx
