Using Cantu Curly Hair Products On My Toddler

My darling girl and her curls, I love Amelia’s hair but it’s been a completely new learning experience for me as my hair is straight and simple to maintain.

Looking after tight curls I’ve found is a whole different game entirely, and I’ve been doing it all wrong.

Since Amelia was a few weeks old I’ve been washing her hair every time she has a bath, using ordinary baby shampoos from Boots, Johnsons and Aldi. I’ve never noticed a problem with her hair until recently when it started to appear dry, frizzy and was getting more and more difficult to comb. In fact, Amelia cries, screams and will do anything she can to avoid having her hair combed because it hurts her so much.

I had invested in a de-tangling spray and it does help but not enough to make it a pleasant experience and I have been wondering if I should invest in proper products to suit her hair type.

So, having no clue where to even start, last week I posted the question to my Instagram Stories and I was completely overwhelmed by the response I received from so many lovely mums and ladies with curls themselves.

There were so many recommendations for brands who specialised in curly hair shampoo, most were only available online or from specialist shops which I didn’t have access to, concerned I was making her hair worse I decided to choose a brand that a lot of people had been recommending that I could pick up in Boots.

It’s called Cantu and whilst they do offer a children’s range, that is only available online. Loads of people had said they use the adult products on their children so I decided to give it a try. I bought the shampoo, leave in conditioner and the milky de-tangler spray.

I’ve also been advised not to wash her hair more than twice a week and whilst the new products are going to help I think it’s my washing habits that have been the main cause of the problem. I genuinely had no idea that I was over washing her hair and making it dry and frizzy.

I’ve used the Cantu shampoo during her bath on Friday evening and it smells just heavenly. Like a pina colda on a sunny beach, if you can imagine what that would smell like as a shampoo. The leave in conditioner and de-tangling spray are all I’ve been using since and it’s my intention now to only wash her hair twice a week with the new shampoo and use the conditioner and spray in between.

I’m loving the Cantu range that I bought for her, it’s made such a difference already and thank you for teaching me how to look after my daughters hair properly. It makes me so sad to think I had been making it worse for her and had been causing damage to her hair when she’s so little.
