We’ve had the LeapFrog Learn and Groove Musical Table for quite a few months now as we bought it when Amelia turned 6 months; we wanted something more interactive than the toys she had at the time. Something to help engage her and help her development.
It’s been a firm favourite ever since we got it, there is so much to do that your little one will be exhausted before they get bored.
Things I like about it:
- It has two modes; learning and musical. By turning the page of the centre book you can flick between learning mode which covers colours, numbers, letters, phrases and then you have music mode which plays lots of sounds, tunes and nursery rhymes.
- It can be adjusted from a standing table for toddlers to a sit-down play table for babies, simply by removing the legs.
- Each item on the table does something different, the piano teaches colours, the trombone teaches numbers, the spinning maraca plays the alphabet and so on.
- There are two volume settings so you can turn it down when it starts to drive you nuts.
- It’s bilingual, ours comes in English and French. By flicking the switch to French it will give you all the same options but you guessed it, in French.
- The bright colours of the buttons are really attractive to baby’s senses and even if they don’t deliberately press buttons, just by banging it they will cause it to make a sound and this will teach them cause and effect when they’re still too young to understand.
Things I don’t like about it:
- My only negative is that when it is a floor table for babies it can be quite hard for them to reach. If you imagine the way a baby sits, with their legs and feet out in front of them, if you then put the table down they can’t reach (well when Amelia was 6 months old she couldn’t). For her to reach I have to place it on top of her legs which she wasn’t keen understandably so it ended up on my legs most of the time.
A lot of time has passed since we bought this table and Amelia still enjoys playing with it now; she has a much greater understanding of it and will deliberately press the buttons she wants. She’s also started to talk along with it so when it says “hello” she will say it back which is super cute and is exactly what we were hoping for when we bought it for her.
If your little one is ready for more interactive toys or you want to encourage them to stand and play or start to talk this table is perfect and it can be used by multiple children at the same time which is great if you have siblings or a play date.
P.S. I can’t cope looking back at these photos of when she was only 6 months old, when was she even this small…
